VII.5.6 Pompeii. Shop. Excavated 1824.

According to Fiorelli -

VII.5.3-6. Of these shops in which nothing remained that can point to their use, it would seem that two had been used for the sale of fuel, since pitch or bitumen was seen on the ground, liquefied by the heat of the fire aroused by the incandescent materials of Vesuvius.

(Di queste botteghe in cui nulla piu rimane che possa additarne la destinazione, pare che due avessero servito per vendita di combustibile, poiche vi si vede sul suolo pece o bitumo, liquefatto dal calore dell’incendio destato dai materiali incandescenti del Vesuvio.)
